Never tag articles for speedy deletion without checking the edit history first. In this case, a vandal had blanked the page, and the appropriate course of action was to revert. Only speedy new articles that are patent nonsense or blank. JRM 19:27, 2004 Dec 12 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Estel,
Concerning the correct latin name for the Russell's Viper, it used to be classified as a member of the genus Vipera. As a matter of fact, most people probably still think of it as vipera russellii, including myself. However, it seems that it was reclassified somewhere during the last decade or so, probably after a study of its genetic makeup and comparison with that of other Vipera members. Thus, it now has its own genus, Daboia (is also one of its common names).

No Turtle Scouts
[edit]Please follow the link and read it before calling it stupid.
Perhaps a better description should be:
Failure of Youth Protection
or Caution; avoid turtles in scouts
or Illegal Parallel Scouting Organization
This is a very real problem in the states, and likely beyond.
You may understand the nature of the problem unless you are a turtle yourself. Are you a turtle ?
If by your "sweet ass" you are a turtle, then you are subverting the basic tenants of scouting. If you are not a turtle, become aware and help formulate methodology for stopping this travisty that marginalizes many of the best scouts and scouters and drives others out of scouting entirely.
Have you ever noticed adults or boys in positions of authority that exhibit unscout like characteristics? Do they hang together and advance in scouting together and continue their unscoutlike conduct? If so you may have identified a clutch of turtles. In the Occoneechee Council they run the OA and have significant detremental influence on the Council as a whole. They are anti-thema to scouting. However their secrecy, and good ol boy system of working together behind the scenes with harrassment, and gossip while publically declaring that they do not exist is their prima modus operanda. Think about unscoutlike behaviour you have seen, particularly in individuals in key leadership positions. Turtleship is one method they use to survive.
- I did read it - and still called it stupid. Though perhaps I shouldn't have used that word. Doing a google search for "Turtle scout" returns 32 links - it doesn't seem that widespread a problem. You're messing around anyway, methinks. Estel (talk) 15:46, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for reading the site. Years ago there were lots of references on the web that included turtles and scouting. They were bold then. During the last 4 years they have made a sustained effort to harrass people insisting on posting publicly the word association "scout" and "turtle".
Please search some www archive site from say 1999 and see what you find.
It is widespread in the States. Keep an eye out for co-ordinated unscoutlike activities.

If I upload my work to Wikipedia it is under GFDL, no additional statement necessary
[edit]Dear Estel, thank you for the comment on my talk page, however, I do not understand why people are asking me to state that my photographs (that are clearly stated to be mine work) need a GFDL statement. The very fact of uploading my work to Wikipedia is a grant of GFDL, that is clear from all the various copyright notices, disclaimers, etc., that one finds here, no? — © Alex756 05:42, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
There was an editing accident (probably MySQL error or cut-n-paste error) on Wikipedia talk:Featured article candidates that resulting in the page contents being duplicated. A number of edits had occurred by the time it was noticed, but I tried to preserve everything while removing duplicate material. Just in case, mosey on over and check if your vote stuck. If you have any questions, respond on my talk page. Thanks!

[edit]Thank you very much for awarding me with this glorious barnstar. It is a satisfaction for me, cause of my work. Thank you once again. P.S. I thought that you don't like me, cause of my October-November 2004 newbie copyvio problems. Nice to see, that Wikipedians are merciful. :) By the way, which of my "hard work" do you appreciate most? -- Darwinek 07:11, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Specifically for your countless civil rights and Carribean athletes articles, which are not only good reads but vital for Wikipedia in their scope, it seems as though many topics like these aren't written about so much; making your contributions all the more remarkable. You've probably created more articles than I have edits :s. By all accounts you're 475 largest contributor in the main namespace, and 455th in all namespaces, according to Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of edits. I hope you keep contributing :) - Estel (talk) 08:59, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)
- Oh yeh, thanks for correcting that typo on my user page and updating it :)
Regarding Totally Spies Article
[edit]The reason I deleted the paragraph in question is because there is no proof that Marathon (a French company) was inspired by the (American) detective drama Charlie's Angels. As such, it must be assumed that Marathon wasn't thinking about Charlie's Angels at the time they created it. The whole "Charlie's Angels" comparison was just media hype based on the assumption that TS was an American show created for American viewers, when in fact it was created by a French company for an international (read: not just an American) audience, notwithstanding the fact that TS takes place in America and stars American teenage girls with American names. It's like they always say during closing credit sequences: "Any resemblance is purely co-incidental".
Oh, and one other thing. I didn't want "anime" involved in this, and rather then bring in that argument, I deleted that part as well.

Hi, I noticed you signed up as a member of the Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. Recently, a 1.0 Collaboration of the Week was created to work on essential topics that are in need of improvement, which will ultimately go in a release version of Wikipedia. You can help by voting, contributing to an article, or simply making a comment. Thank you for your support. :) Gflores Talk 08:04, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Version 1.0 "Release Version Qualifying"
[edit]Hi, I'm interested in your feedback on Wikipedia talk:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Release Version Qualifying. It's essentially an idea to use a process similar to WP:FAC to identify and handle articles and lists that would go in a release version. Maurreen 19:31, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Yes the GFDL was an error, I have amended it to creative commons attribution. I have checked out the link you provided, I'd appreciate it if you would add my name to the image page as the creator of the work—which is what I really mean by attribution, rather than a single link back to the page of origin. I have one reservation about licensing my work under the Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial ShareAlike 1.0—I've been considering compiling some of my work into a cofftable photo book and I wouldn't want the license to prevent me from being able to do that, given that publishers usually want some amount of profit. If I misunderstand the copyright you proposed please get back to me. Thanks. -JCarriker 08:53, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Libya
[edit]Hi,
I've recently added Libya to the list of featured article candidates. Overall the candidature is going well with many of the objections now sorted out. The final concrete objection is with the article's prose. I have been the main contributor to the article and have been looking at it for the previous 9 - 10 months. My eyes no longer see it freshly, so I am not a suitable copy-editor!
To meet the final demand of copy editing, I have been advised to ask different people to edit parts of the article.
I would really love to get this article featured as you can probably see from the page's history! I've worked very hard on it and I see this as possibly being the final hurdle.
You can see the prose objections, mostly raised by Sandy, on the candidature page. If you have the time, please choose a section (Politics, Religion, Culture etc.) and copyedit, perfect, ace it! I would be very grateful with any help I can get.
Thanks a lot,
--Jaw101ie 16:52, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Indiana_aging.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Indiana_aging.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 05:29, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Young americans.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Young americans.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 03:25, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Young americans.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Young americans.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:12, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Estel! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Estel. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Estel~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The file File:Titan colour.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, lower-resolution version of File:Huygens surface color.jpg
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ixfd64 (talk) 00:39, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
